How to Care for Your Activewear: Simple Habits After Every Workout
Share
Your activewear works hard alongside you. A few thoughtful habits between workouts can help keep your favourite pieces fresh and ready for your next session.
Start with the care label
Different fabrics need different treatment. Always check the garment's care label before washing, drying or ironing. Its instructions should take priority over any general laundry advice.
Let damp clothing breathe
After your workout, avoid leaving sweaty clothing bundled inside a gym bag. If you cannot wash it straight away, hang it somewhere ventilated to dry before putting it in the laundry basket.
Wash with a little extra care
Separate colours, fasten any zips and turn garments inside out where appropriate. Choose the temperature and wash cycle recommended on the label. Avoid overloading the machine so clothing has room to move.
Keep detergent simple
Use the amount of detergent recommended for your load. More is not always better: excess detergent can leave residue. Avoid fabric softener on technical workout fabrics unless the care instructions specifically allow it.
Be gentle when drying
Follow the label's drying instructions. Where air-drying is recommended, reshape your clothing gently and let it dry in a ventilated spot away from strong direct sunlight. Avoid wringing or applying high heat to stretch fabrics unless the label permits it.
Store only when fully dry
Make sure each piece is completely dry before putting it away. Fold neatly or hang as appropriate, and rotate your outfits so you have a fresh set ready while another is being washed.
A good care routine does not need to be complicated. Start with the label, give your clothing room to breathe and treat washing and drying as part of your post-workout routine.
